Telecom CEO Wang Xiaochu's strategy: not to build a nationwide 3G network [Copy link]

Wang Xiaochu said that China Telecom has conducted soft surveys on the 3G market and potential customer groups, but has not made any actual investments.

According to the requirements of the Ministry of Information Industry, the Group invested RMB 198 million to build 103 base stations in Baoding City, Hebei Province to conduct TD-SCDMA 3G network trials, which are expected to be completed in October. However, the specific test results are subject to the unified announcement of the Ministry of Information Industry.

Wang Xiaochu stressed that the cost of 3G network is more than half cheaper than 2G, so he is optimistic about the future development of 3G business.

Regarding the IPTV business, Wang Xiaochu said that there has been no large-scale investment in IPTV at present. The key is that the relevant operating license has not yet been obtained. However, China Telecom has begun to expand its IPTV business in 7 cities. It is expected that the number of IPTV users in Shanghai will reach tens of thousands by the end of this year. Currently, China Telecom is still exploring the business model of IPTV.

Wang Xiaochu believes that the main source of income for IPTV is not program fees, but multimedia applications. (Cao Zenghui)
