The major RF performances of Traveling Wave Tubes (TWTs) are determined by the Slow-wave Structure (SWS), which is customarily characterized by the cold
parameters: phase velocity (or dispersion curve), interaction impedance and attenuation. The conventional procedures for evaluating these parameters make use of either analytical methods, entailing several simplifying approximations, or experimental approaches that produce results affected by measurement errors. While these methods have proven to be very successful in a number of instances, some
applications require high level of accuracy in particular for the phase velocity (typically in
the range of 0.5%.
