Danny Biran, senior vice president of Altera's marketing department, introduced the company's 28nm DSP innovation. Interviews are planned for the first quarter of 2011. The development software DSPB-AB will be available for interviews in May this year. These Stratix V family DSPs are targeted at three massive information processing areas: video processing for high-definition televisions, 3G, LTE and LTE Advanced base stations, and military radar.
The cost of the 28nm process is more expensive than that of 40nm, which seems to go against the original intention of pursuing a lower process - to reduce the cost per chip, but this does not reduce the enthusiasm of manufacturers for chasing 28nm.
