Both star connection and delta connection are ways used to connect three loads in a three-phase circuit.
In a star connection, one terminal of each load is connected to the common neutral point, and the other terminal is connected to the phase line in the three-phase power supply, as shown in the following figure:
In the triangle connection, the two terminals of each load are connected to the two adjacent loads in turn to form a closed triangle circuit, as shown in the following figure:
The two connection methods differ in circuit parameters and working performance. Star connection is usually used for low-power loads and smaller motors at starting, and its circuit parameters are relatively stable and relatively easy to detect and repair. Delta connection is usually used for high-power loads and larger motors, and its circuit parameters are relatively complex, but it has better stability and performance under high load and high-speed operation.
Difference between star and delta connection
Star connection and triangle connection are common three-phase circuit connection methods in electrical engineering. Their differences mainly lie in the connection method and nature.
Connection method:
Star connection: One phase of the three-phase power supply is connected to a common point (star point), and the other two phases are connected to their respective loads.
Delta connection: Connect the three phases of power in sequence to form a triangle, and then connect the respective loads to each corner of the triangle.
nature:
Star connection: The voltage between the star-connected loads is relatively stable because the three loads are isolated from the star point and the voltage difference is not too large; however, each load requires an independent cable to be connected to the star point, so more cables are required.
Delta connection: The current between loads in a delta connection is relatively stable because the current circulates along a circular circuit without instability; however, the voltage difference between each load is large, which may cause load instability; since each load can be directly connected to the adjacent load, fewer cables are required.
use:
Star connection: usually used for low-power loads, loads at long distances, and where a neutral point is required.
Delta connection: usually used for high-power loads, close-range loads, and when a neutral point is not required.
