By October 2020, Google's mini-SBC, the mini Coral development board, will finally be on sale. It will be available in the Coral Store and Seeed Studio, with an estimated shipping date of October 31.
This new SBC has a 40-pin connector for interfacing with the previously announced TPU accelerator module, which Google designed with AI properties in mind.
It runs Mendel, a Linux derivative of Debian, which is open to support for many Linux tools and applications. It also supports AutoML Vision Edge.
The new motherboard is powered by a MediaTek 8167s SoC (quad-core Arm Cortex-A35) processor with IMG PowerVR GE8300 integrated graphics, and it has 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM.
It supports Bluetooth and wireless connectivity. You can use the 3.5mm audio jack to connect audio devices or use the micro-HDMI port to output video, and you can use the 24-pin FFC connector to connect a camera.
The Coral Dev Board Mini is positioned to compete with Nvidia's Jetson Nano, which costs $59 for 2GB and $99 for 4GB. It's also obviously competing with the Raspberry Pi, which can do basic machine learning, such as facial recognition. The Coral can also get a performance boost from Google's own Coral USB accelerator dongle, which costs $59.
