According to foreign media reports, Ford Motor Company announced that the company will jointly develop the first pure electric model of its luxury brand Lincoln with electric vehicle startup Rivian.

The model will use Rivian's "flexible skateboard platform" as part of Ford's previously announced $500 million investment.

In April last year, Ford Motor invested $500 million in Rivian and planned to use Rivian's electric platform to produce a pure electric vehicle.

“Partnering with Rivian marks a critical turning point for Lincoln as we move toward an all-electric future,” Joy Falotico, global president of the Lincoln brand, said in a statement.

The two companies said last year they would work together on a vehicle, but did not identify it as an electric Lincoln. Details on the type of vehicle, production and sales date have not been released.

According to previous media reports, Lincoln will use the "skateboard" chassis used in the Rivian R1S SUV, a project codenamed "U787" within Ford. Lincoln's all-electric SUV will be available in 2021 or 2022, with plans to launch a small electric crossover during this period and a larger model in 2023.

So far, Rivian has released two new cars, one of which is the medium-to-large SUV R1S. The car is driven by four motors, with maximum power of 294kW (400PS) and 551kW (750PS), while the maximum power of the highest model is limited to 515kW (700PS), and the maximum range is about 386km, 498km and 659km. In terms of performance, the entry-level model will have an acceleration performance of 0-96km/h in 4.9 seconds, while the other two higher-performance versions will accelerate from 0-96km/h in less than 3 seconds.

“Our vehicle development partnership with Ford is an exciting opportunity to combine our technology with Lincoln’s vision for innovation and improvement,” Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said in a statement. “We are proud to work together on Lincoln’s first all-electric vehicle.”

The all-electric Lincoln is part of Ford's previously announced more than $11.5 billion investment in electrification, which includes all-electric versions of the Ford Mustang and Ford F-150 pickup truck.
