After launching its first 4K OLED TV, Hisense has officially withdrawn from the OLED TV product line and switched to ULED-XD technology to compete in the high-end market. Hisense told reporters that they believe their new ULED XD technology will be the OLED killer.
At last year's CES, the company talked up the potential of their new ULED XD TVs, and this year they unveiled their first consumer-ready product based on the technology.
Hisense's ULED XD display technology places a second high-definition grayscale panel between the TV's 4K panel and LED backlight. The company claims that this technology will allow them to offer consumers the same deep blacks and pixel-level backlighting as OLED TVs at a lower cost.
This technology provides consumers with the same deep black and pixel-level backlight as OLED TVs while also reducing production costs, helping Hisense gain the initiative in the fierce competition in the TV industry.
Although in essence, the change of a company's strategic deployment can be regarded as the company's own business, Hisense's willful move is definitely worth pondering when it comes to the upgrading and transformation of display technology in the TV industry. In fact, in recent years, OLED display technology has maintained a strong development momentum in the entire TV industry. Whether it is Huawei Smart Screen and Xiaomi TV's high-profile announcement that they will join the OLED TV camp in 2020, or the official production of LGD's Guangzhou OLED panel factory, all signs indicate that OLED will continue to maintain a strong development momentum, and at least it will still be the focus of color TV manufacturers in the next few years.
Considering the strong development momentum of OLED in the entire industry in recent years, Hisense chose to go against the trend, which fully demonstrates Hisense's confidence in ULED XD technology.
Therefore, from this perspective, Hisense's withdrawal from the OLED TV product line is tantamount to going against the grain, which makes people doubt the authenticity of this news.
