The increasing use of lithium batteries has attracted much attention to the charging methods of lithium batteries. Different lithium batteries usually have different charging methods, which is why it is difficult for everyone to fully master the charging methods of lithium batteries in a short period of time. Lithium batteries are not only used in mobile phones, but also in electric vehicles. The battery is the "heart" of electric vehicles, and lithium batteries are beginning to show their advantages. However, if you want to extend its service life, you must know how to charge it correctly!

In order to help everyone better understand how to charge lithium batteries correctly, this article will introduce the correct way to charge mobile phone lithium batteries and electric vehicle lithium batteries. Let’s learn about it together.

The life of lithium battery is generally 300-500 charging cycles. Assuming that a full discharge provides 1Q of power, if the reduction of power after each charging cycle is not considered, the lithium battery can provide or replenish 300Q-500Q of power in its life. Therefore, if you charge it every time you use 1/2, you can charge it 600-1000 times; if you charge it every time you use 1/3, you can charge it 900-1500 times. And so on, if you charge it randomly, the number of times is uncertain. In short, no matter how you charge it, the total amount of power replenished is constant. Therefore, we can also understand it this way: the life of lithium battery is related to the total charge power of the battery, and has nothing to do with the number of charges. The effects of deep discharge and deep charge and shallow discharge and shallow charge on the life of lithium battery are not much different.

Correct introduction to mobile phone lithium battery charging method

Generally, the charging method described in the mobile phone manual is the standard charging method suitable for that mobile phone.

In addition, a lithium battery cell phone or charger will automatically stop charging when the battery is full. There is no so-called "trickle" charging that lasts for more than 10 hours like a nickel battery charger. In other words, if your lithium battery is full, it is useless to put it on the charger. And no one can guarantee that the characteristics of the battery's charge and discharge protection circuit will never change and the quality is guaranteed, so your battery will be on the edge of danger for a long time. This is another reason why we oppose long charging.

Charging for an unusually long time or completely draining the battery will result in overcharging and over-discharging, which will cause permanent damage to the positive and negative electrodes of the lithium-ion battery. From a molecular level, over-discharging will cause the negative electrode carbon to release excessive lithium ions, causing depressions in its layer structure. Overcharging will force too many lithium ions into the negative electrode carbon structure, making some of the lithium ions no longer able to be released. This is why lithium-ion batteries are generally equipped with charge and discharge control circuits.

The correct way to deal with lithium battery mobile phones:

In summary, the most important tips for charging and discharging of lithium battery mobile phones during use are:

1. Charge according to the standard time and procedure, that is, the first three times should be done in this way. First plug the charger (wired charger) into the power supply and then plug the output end of the charger into the charging port of the mobile phone. Someone may ask: Is it better to charge with the phone turned on or turned off? Answer: Both are OK! Some brands of mobile phones cannot charge the backup battery in the mobile phone (the small lithium battery on the motherboard, which powers the 32.768 clock crystal) when the phone is turned off. The backup battery can only be charged by direct charging in standby mode!

2. When the phone battery is low, you should start charging as soon as possible; lithium batteries are most easily damaged when over-discharged!

3. Lithium batteries do not require special methods to activate. Lithium batteries will be activated naturally during normal use of mobile phones. If you insist on using the first three 12-hour long charging "activation" methods, it will not work in practice. Generally speaking, depending on the size of the battery, the charging time is between 2-4 hours. Therefore, all the practices of pursuing 12-hour ultra-long charging and using lithium battery mobile phones until they automatically shut down are wrong!

The correct way to charge electric vehicle lithium batteries

1. Charge the new battery

Generally speaking, a lithium battery is in a low-capacity self-discharge state from the moment it leaves the factory. After the battery is left for a period of time, it enters a dormant state, at which time the capacity is lower than normal and the usage time is shortened. The capacity loss caused by this self-discharge is reversible, which means it can be restored by charging the battery.

Lithium batteries are very easy to activate and do not require any special methods. Generally, the battery can be activated and restored to normal capacity after 3-5 normal charge and discharge cycles.

2. When to charge lithium batteries

Many users think that when an electric car runs out of power, they should charge the lithium battery. After all, the number of times a lithium battery can be charged and discharged is limited, so the lithium battery should be used up as much as possible before charging.

Normally, the battery should be used up before being recharged. However, even if the electric car still has a certain amount of power left, it cannot meet the needs of the next day's journey. In this case, it still needs to be charged that night.

However, if the battery of an electric vehicle is too low, if you force the electric vehicle to be driven at this time, the voltage may be too low due to excessive discharge of the battery, which may result in damage to the battery life.

The correct charging method of polymer lithium battery

1. When charging the polymer lithium battery, it is best to choose the original dedicated charger, otherwise it will affect or damage the polymer lithium battery.

2. When charging polymer lithium batteries, it is best to use slow charging and try to avoid fast charging. Repeated charging and discharging will also affect the life of polymer lithium batteries.

3. If the mobile phone is not used for more than 7 days, the polymer lithium battery should be fully charged before use. Polymer lithium batteries have self-discharge phenomenon.

4. The charging time of polymer lithium batteries is not the longer the better. For ordinary chargers, charging should be stopped immediately when the polymer lithium battery is fully charged, otherwise the polymer lithium battery will affect battery performance due to heat or overheating.

5. After the polymer lithium battery is charged, try to avoid leaving it on the charger for more than 10 hours. If it is not used for a long time, the mobile phone and the polymer lithium battery should be separated.

Notes on correct charging of lithium batteries

1. Avoid charging at too high a temperature

2. Avoid charging at too low a temperature

3. Frequent use

Mastering the correct method of charging lithium batteries can effectively extend the service life of lithium batteries.
