As the degree of vehicle networking continues to increase, the cybersecurity threats faced by key systems such as steering and braking are also increasing. To this end, according to foreign media reports, AY Innovative, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, has developed a semiconductor chip driven by artificial intelligence (AI) technology that can provide real-time cybersecurity protection and is designed to protect vehicles from hacker attacks. This technology is a groundbreaking advancement in the field of automotive safety, providing automakers with a compact chip-based solution to protect the safety of connected cars around the world.

Hidden risks in vehicle network systems

Modern vehicles operate in the form of complex networks, with systems such as CAN-bus networks interconnecting key functions such as the engine and braking system. However, such networks have flaws and are vulnerable to hacker attacks. Although existing software solutions provide a certain degree of protection, the ability to respond in real time may still face challenges. AY Innovative's AI Secure is the first chip-based intrusion detection and prevention system designed for use in vehicles, which can instantly detect and block hacker attack attempts against critical vehicle networks.

Improving network security with AI Secure

AI Secure provides real-time protection while maintaining low power consumption and cost. Unlike traditional security solutions that use larger and more power-hungry processors, AI Secure is compact, energy-efficient and cost-effective, allowing automakers to meet global cybersecurity standards such as the United Nations WP.29 R155 without compromising vehicle affordability and performance.

Academic cooperation and future development roadmap

AY Innovative has partnered with the SoC (System-on-Chip) laboratory at Soongsil University in South Korea to work with more than 30 researchers to advance security technology. Through this partnership, AY Innovative will continue to develop AI security algorithms and next-generation network security chips to adapt to changing network security needs. As AY Innovative continues to expand its product range, the company is also seeking to establish partnerships with automakers and suppliers to improve vehicle safety and protect the safety of future connected vehicles.
