On August 16, data from market research firm Rho Motion showed that although the growth of the electric vehicle industry slowed down at the beginning of this year, global sales of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) increased by 21% year-on-year in July, showing a strong rebound.
Data shows that global sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 1.4 million last month, of which sales in the Chinese market were about 880,000, a year-on-year increase of 31%, and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles surged 70% year-on-year.
Charles Lester, data manager at Rho Motion, said: "The electric vehicle market has been a mixed bag so far this year. Global sales have been strong, with continued growth in China, North America and emerging electric vehicle markets. However, sales in the EU market have stagnated, with Germany experiencing a sharp decline. EU tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles are likely to exacerbate the situation further. Despite the regional situation, France and the UK have been able to weather the storm and have seen growth in their domestic markets. Unless decisive action is taken, we expect these trends to continue for the rest of the year."
According to foreign media reports, electric vehicle sales in the United States and Canada increased by 7.1% in July. The situation in Europe is not so optimistic, with sales falling by 7.8% in July. The decline in Germany was particularly significant, with a 12% drop in the January-July period.
