When I tested the Song PLUS DM-i, I actually praised BYD's braking and kinetic energy recovery system. Its kinetic energy recovery can be recovered until the vehicle stops. Recently, BYD has made a new breakthrough in the braking system. The BYD Han will be equipped with Bosch's "IPB intelligent integrated braking system. This is also China's first new energy mass-produced vehicle equipped with this system.

At the same time, the "CST Comfort Braking Function" based on the IPB system was launched globally for the first time on the Han, which can help the Han achieve leading safety, comfort and long driving range.

Currently, the research and development teams of BYD and Bosch are conducting rigorous testing and adjustments on the "Han" equipped with the IPB system to ensure that this new braking system, which is used for new energy vehicles for the first time, can maximize its function and ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

Let’s take a look at a few points to understand what IPB is?

The full name of IPB is "Intelligent Integrated Braking System". The so-called "intelligent" means that IPB is an electronically controlled braking system. Compared with the traditional vacuum booster pump braking system, it makes the braking system respond faster and control more accurately. In addition, with this intelligent electronically controlled braking system, more functions can be expanded.

For example, when IPB is combined with new energy vehicles, the efficiency of brake energy recovery can be significantly enhanced. The so-called "integration" means that IPB integrates the ESP system. Compared with non-integrated brake systems, the IPB system is lighter and occupies less space in the car.

In order to maximize the above advantages, BYD and Bosch are conducting various tests and adjustments on the Han at the dedicated test track in Yakeshi, where the low-adhesion road surface and cold environment far exceed the user's usage scenarios, placing strict requirements on the vehicle's braking performance, stability and reliability.

BYD's engineers will conduct repeated testing and adjustments on more than a dozen BYD Han vehicles here for several months. BYD and Bosch will make the IPB system highly match the overall vehicle performance of "Han", improve BYD Han's performance in braking, acceleration, risk avoidance, comfort, endurance and other aspects, and add points to its reliability after mass production.

So what are the substantial improvements of this braking system compared with the traditional braking system? I believe you are all very curious.

The most obvious advantage is that IPB can generate braking force more quickly and accurately. According to official data, when the "AEB automatic emergency braking" function is triggered, the response time of the traditional braking system is about 600 milliseconds, while IPB can provide maximum braking force within 150 milliseconds, which is faster than the speed of a human blink.

Endurance and comfort coexist, experience the future of car life

We all know that frequent "nodding" and jerking of the car when braking is an important factor affecting comfort. When most drivers brake, the car body "nods" more obviously, which can easily make passengers dizzy.

However, after the IPB system was combined with BYD Han, this problem was solved with "intelligence". Based on the IPB system, Bosch launched the "CST Comfort Braking" function for the first time in the world. It can provide drivers and passengers with a smoother and more comfortable experience while ensuring braking safety.

During the braking process, regardless of whether the driver is an "experienced driver" or not, the CST function can allow the braking system to automatically and intelligently adjust the braking force to avoid the "nodding" phenomenon during braking, providing a smoother and more comfortable experience for the driver and passengers.

You don't have to worry about safety issues. In an emergency, when the vehicle tends to become unstable, or when the AEB automatic emergency braking function is triggered, or when the driver is in emergency braking, the CST comfort braking function will automatically exit.

This set of functions combined with the "Han" not only improves safety, but also brings a "long endurance" effect. When braking, IPB works with the "Han" drive system to first use the motor for energy recovery, converting kinetic energy into electrical energy and storing it in the power battery; once the braking effect of the motor cannot meet the needs of the braking system, IPB will quickly release the brake fluid and activate the brake caliper for braking.

This process allows the Han to recover 10% more energy during braking, which increases the driving range and reduces the wear on the brake pads.

So did you find out?

After BYD Han was equipped with Bosch IPB, the safety, comfort and endurance of the whole vehicle have been significantly improved. Of course, we have not yet got a test drive car equipped with this system. As China's first mass-produced new energy vehicle equipped with Bosch IPB, Han is still being improved in the extremely cold environment of Yakeshi.

Let us wait and see its arrival.
