On May 30, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on May 27, in accordance with the "Standardization Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Management Measures for Compulsory National Standards", the Equipment Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized the National Automobile Standardization Technical Committee to carry out the formulation and revision of five compulsory national standards, including " Technical Requirements and Test Methods for Passenger Vehicle Braking Systems ". A draft for comments has been formed and is now open for comments from all sectors of society.
It is found from the " Technical Requirements and Test Methods for Passenger Vehicle Braking Systems " (Draft for Comments) that the following clauses are added to the additional requirements for vehicles equipped with electric regenerative braking systems:
For vehicles with Type A and Type A and B electric regenerative braking systems, the braking effect achieved by releasing the accelerator pedal in a forward gear shall not slow the vehicle to a stop.
The document states that in recent years, with the gradual and widespread application of Type A electric regenerative braking system technology , drivers may develop corresponding driving habits due to long-term control of the accelerator pedal to achieve braking and stopping, which may lead to misuse such as wrong pedaling in emergency braking conditions. In order to clarify the positioning of Type A electric regeneration as an auxiliary brake, this requirement is proposed based on sufficient industry research and discussion, aiming to guide drivers to develop good driving habits and ensure driving safety. And considering the current status of industry technology and products, this clause provides a separate transition period.
The document mentioned that "the braking effect achieved by releasing the accelerator pedal slows the vehicle down to a stop" is the previously controversial " single-pedal mode". When the driver does not step on the accelerator pedal, the vehicle will gradually slow down until it stops, without even stepping on the brake pedal.
In May 2023, Tesla announced the recall of more than 1.1 million vehicles in China to adjust the factory default state of the vehicle's energy recovery braking strategy, and provide an option to allow drivers to select the energy recovery braking intensity on vehicles that do not have the option of energy recovery braking intensity.
