With the iterative development of autonomous driving technology, multi-sensor fusion solutions are an important safety guarantee for the acceleration of intelligent driving and are regarded as the only way for autonomous driving. The current combination of camera + millimeter wave radar + ultrasonic radar basically meets the needs of intelligent driving perception, while LiDAR leads in detection speed and day and night working capabilities. LiDAR has the best comprehensive performance. Due to its advantages of high precision, wide detection range, high resolution, and strong algorithm feasibility, it is considered by most vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to be a necessary sensor for L3 and above autonomous driving. At the same time, with the continuous improvement of intelligent driving demand and the continuous improvement of penetration rate, autonomous driving technology continues to develop towards L3 and higher levels, and its advantages are becoming more and more obvious. With the improvement of autonomous driving level, the number of LiDARs installed on a single vehicle is expected to continue to increase. According to the report of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, L3, L4 and L5 autonomous driving may require an average of 1, 2-3 and 4-6 LiDARs, respectively. With the continuous increase in mass production and shipment, the price of vehicle-mounted LiDARs will drop from tens of thousands of dollars in the early days to a few hundred dollars (less than RMB 3,000) in 2023.
