According to foreign media reports, Tesla CEO Musk recently posted on the social media platform X that Tesla's cumulative investment in autonomous driving projects will far exceed $10 billion this year.

Musk said Tesla's cumulative investment in training computing, data pipelines and video storage will exceed $10 billion this year. However, he also pointed out that even this figure pales in comparison to the company's $250 billion investment in cars, most of which should be able to drive themselves in the future.

"Achieving general purpose autonomous driving is staggeringly difficult, requiring all of the above and more. Cumulative investments in training compute, massive data pipelines, and massive video storage will well exceed $10B this year. But this is nothing compared to the $250B worth of cars on the road, equipped with Tesla-designed AI inference computers and trained by drivers," Musk wrote.

Although the investment amount mentioned by Musk recently at X is very large, considering that Tesla has produced more than 6 million vehicles to date, such an investment does seem to be worthwhile. In addition, FSD has already generated some revenue, which is currently limited, but the potential is huge.

Tech giant Apple has reportedly spent $10 billion over the past decade trying to develop its own car, which is said to be primarily focused on autonomous driving. In short, one of the world's most valuable companies spent $10 billion only to abandon its car project. In contrast, Tesla spent the same amount of money developing its autonomous driving project but undoubtedly got more results.
