Recently, Aptiv exhibited its seventh-generation 4D millimeter-wave corner radar at CES 2024, which was developed by a local Chinese team and equipped with China's first integrated radar chip. This is the industry's first 4D radar localization solution using an air waveguide antenna.
This high-performance corner radar is designed based on a 77GHz 4-transmit 4-receive domestic radar chip. It uses the latest hybrid waveform design to improve the dynamic signal-to-noise ratio, and can achieve higher-resolution detection at longer distances and full distances, thus having better detection capabilities for vulnerable targets such as pedestrians. It reuses Aptiv's own mature high-performance end-to-end radar algorithm to achieve high angular resolution and accuracy within a wide field of view (FOV). (FOV: ±75° horizontal angle, ±15° elevation angle; resolution: horizontal angle <2 degrees, elevation angle <4 degrees). The latest anti-interference algorithm designed by Aptiv itself is used to improve the anti-interference capability by about 30% compared to traditional radars.
Aptiv's seventh-generation 4D corner radar adopts a platform design with more flexibility, supports satellite architecture and single radar architecture, and optional point cloud/target output provides customers with more choices. It also supports a variety of interface types, and can flexibly choose Ethernet or CAN-FD interfaces. Aptiv's latest generation of radar can provide a scalable platform approach suitable for various vehicle models, and can continuously improve detection performance and expand related intelligent driving functions through sensor fusion and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
Aptiv's seventh-generation corner radar solution equipped with domestically produced chips can meet the functional safety standard ISO 26262 ASIL-B level, and the radar can support ADAS to meet the European R79 standard. In addition, Aptiv provides a maximum 4G working bandwidth mode for selection, achieving extremely high-precision detection over short distances, and improving the accuracy and resolution of automatic parking perception.
Aptiv China has been committed to the localization of the supply chain, especially the localization of chip strategy. Aptiv's seventh-generation 4D millimeter-wave radar, which uses domestic chips, has a higher cost-performance ratio, which not only promotes the market application of domestic semiconductors in the RF field, but also helps Aptiv better serve local Chinese customers and increase the localization rate of its products.
