The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially granted Apple two patents related to Project Titan. The first patent is titled "System with Hidden Openings," while the second patent is titled "System and Method for Adjustable Lighting."
The background to the first patent, "System with Hidden Openings," states that systems such as vehicles have electronic components and components that handle tasks such as heating and cooling. Inside the vehicle, these components may be overlapped by layers of materials such as cloth, polymer, or leather. The systems covered by the new Project Titan patent are primarily vehicles, but may also apply to electronic equipment systems that may have a layer of material with invisible openings.
This layer of material with invisible openings can form a covering for vehicle seating portions, such as seat cushions, backrests or headrests, or can form other suitable covering structures. These invisible openings can be laser drilled openings. The material layer may include an outer layer of fabric overlapping an inner layer such as an inner foam layer. Laser drilling can have external openings in the fabric layer and internal openings in the foam layer. Each inner opening can overlap with multiple outer openings.
The exposed surface of the fabric layer may have different appearance strands of material, and/or may be otherwise configured to help visually hide the laser drilling. Laser drill holes can also be of small size to help make the laser drill holes invisible. The purpose of this design is to achieve heat dissipation and ventilation inside the vehicle without affecting comfort and appearance.
As for the second patent "System and Method for Adjustable Lighting," Apple did not disclose specific details. But it can be speculated that this may be an innovative design for the vehicle's interior lighting system, aiming to provide a better driving experience.
