Recently, in order to system deployment and scientific planning of automotive chip standardization work, lead and standardize the research and development and matching application of automotive chip technology, and promote the healthy and sustainable development of the automotive chip industry, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized relevant units to compile the "Guidelines for the Construction of the National Automotive Chip Standard System (2023 Edition)" )》(Draft for comments).

The draft for comments proposes to formulate more than 30 key automotive chip standards by 2025, and to formulate more than 70 automotive chip-related standards by 2030. Establish and improve the automotive chip standard system, guide and promote the development and product application of my country's automotive chip technology, cultivate an independent innovation environment for my country's automotive chip technology, enhance the overall technical level and international competitiveness, and build a safe, scientific, efficient and sustainable automotive chip industry ecology.

Automotive chips are the core components of automotive electronic systems and an important foundation for the transformation and upgrading of the automotive industry. Compared with consumer and industrial chips, the application scenarios of automotive chips are more special and have stricter requirements for environmental adaptability, reliability and safety. The actual needs of chip application in vehicles need to be fully considered.

The shortage of domestic automobiles has always been a serious problem. In the context of core shortage, domestic automakers have actively embraced domestic cores from the perspective of stabilizing the supply chain. The domestic automotive chip industry has also experienced rapid growth in recent years.

Tianyancha data shows that as of now, there are more than 482,000 integrated circuit-related companies, of which more than 113,000 new registered companies will be added in 2022, with a growth rate of 32.8%, which is relatively fast; according to incomplete Tianyancha Statistics show that since January 2023, more than 1,870 patent applications have been filed for integrated circuit-related patents, of which over 70% were invention patent applications.

However, China lacks a sound automotive chip standard system, and there is no unified technical standard language for upstream and downstream companies. Instead, they rely more on internationally used standards for automotive chip testing and evaluation. Currently, AEC-Q series certification is the only way for chip design companies to enter the automotive field. AEC, the full name of Automotive Electronics Council, is a standardization organization initiated and established in 1993 by the three major American automobile companies, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors.

The proposed construction of this standard system will definitely accelerate the improvement of the domestic automotive chip supply chain. Zou Guangcai, deputy secretary-general of the China Automotive Chip Industry Innovation Strategic Alliance, previously said that the standard system is a technical language that connects and unifies the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain. Only when a standard system is established can the upstream of the industry know what standards to design according to, and only the downstream knows what to follow. Standard chip selection.

"There is currently no tape-out production line for complex automotive chips in China. Nowadays, key automotive chips, such as MUC and SOC chips with more than 16 bits, are tape-outed in other regions. We should have the ability to guarantee the bottom line. ”
