According to news on March 21, it has been almost two years since Musk announced that he would cancel the radar. Relevant data shows that since the cancellation of the radar, the number of Tesla accidents and near-accidents has increased.
In this regard, some netizens said: Could the increase in the number of accidents be due to more sales?
Data from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which is investigating this issue, shows that it has received hundreds of complaints about Tesla braking accidentally in the past nine months.
Last year, more than 750 Tesla owners complained that their cars suddenly and inexplicably braked while driving.
At the same time, NHTSA also stepped up its investigation of Tesla's Autopilot function in 2022 after more than a dozen accidents in which Tesla cars crashed into emergency rescue vehicles. NHTSA said this driver-assist feature had difficulty identifying parked vehicles.
Currently, Tesla has opened more than 400,000 FSD Beta test qualifications in North America. A few days ago, the FSD version was upgraded to V11.3.2 through OTA upgrade, and some functions were optimized.
Among the mainstream solutions for assisted driving systems, Tesla is the only brand that abandons radar sensors and adopts a purely visual solution. Most car companies still adopt a solution of vision + radar sensor + high-precision map.
However, all this has little to do with domestic consumers for the time being.
In the domestic market, due to traffic regulations, it is not yet known how Tesla FSD will be implemented. Now, the Model Y without radar is about to arrive. I don’t know if it will be accepted by everyone, or whether a new business of “installing radar” will be born for Tesla!
