The 2023 CES Consumer Electronics Show opens with the release of new Google HD Map technology. Google HD Maps can provide highly detailed and real-time updated road information, including a large amount of road detail information that traditional maps cannot provide, and enhance vehicle recognition of lane markings and road infrastructure. function, thus improving the computing power of assisted driving systems, and Polestar 3 will become the first car in the world to feature Google’s latest high-definition maps.
Polestar 3 is Polestar's first SUV model. In addition to control, it also pays more attention to driving comfort. The front face uses an asymmetrical encrypted L-shaped design for the lights. The headlight set is also different from Polestar 2. The design adopts a variant shape of "Thor's Hammer", and the closed front grille is more charming, further highlighting the Polestar family style.
The new car comes standard with 1.3-megapixel high-definition LED headlights, which continuously project light through adaptive vehicle surroundings. The camera is used to identify oncoming cars on the road. The 1.3-megapixel component can block the lights of the car in front of the Polestar 3 to avoid dazzling the oncoming driver, while focusing the lights between the two cars. The system also automatically adjusts the intensity, size and height of the beam based on light, weather conditions and car speed.
The length, width and height of Polestar 3 are 4900/2120/1627mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2985mm. It is positioned as a medium to large SUV. The overall shape of the new car adopts a new aerodynamic appearance design, while focusing on retaining the classic characteristics of the SUV. The overall feeling makes people feel very futuristic.
The new car has a low profile that is different from traditional SUVs and has many aerodynamic designs, such as the air guide holes on the front hood, the smooth roof curve, low-wind resistance wheels, hidden door handles, and the integrated rear part of the roof. Spoilers and more.
At the rear of the vehicle, you will see the familiar C-shaped through-type taillights of the Polestar family. Since it is a pure electric model, there is no exhaust pipe, making the overall tail more concise and compact. The rear bypass wing and rear air front are integrated on the rear spoiler. The wings highlight its Nordic origins.
The interior of Polestar 3 continues the previous Nordic simple style. All versions of models come standard with air suspension, panoramic sunroof, full LED lights inside and outside, hidden door handles with proximity sensing, 21-inch alloy wheels, Baohua Weijian (Bowers & Wilkins) sound system, Dolby Atmos surround sound, electric suction doors, HUD head-up display system and Pilot Assist, etc.
Inside the car, Polestar 3 introduces Smart Eye's advanced eye-tracking technology for the first time, providing two closed-loop driver status monitoring cameras. These cameras can monitor the driver's eyes and can send out warning signals, sounds and even trigger the emergency braking function when the driver is distracted or drowsy.
In terms of power, there are two versions available, the dual-motor long-range version and the dual-motor high-performance version. Both versions are equipped with a dual-motor power system dominated by rear motors. The dual-motor long-range version can provide a maximum power of 360kW and a maximum torque of 840N·m. The dual-motor high-performance version can reach a maximum power of 360kW and a maximum torque of 91N·m. Both versions come standard with an adjustable single-pedal mode, and the rear axle uses a dual-clutch electric torque vectoring system. This system was originally developed for the Polestar 1 and has been completely upgraded and applied to the Polestar 3. In addition, the rear motor also has a decoupling function, allowing the car to run solely on the front motor to reduce power consumption in certain situations.
The new car is equipped with a 111kWh large-capacity battery pack, giving the Polestar 3 dual-motor long-range version a target range of 670km (CLTC operating conditions). The lithium battery uses prismatic cells housed in a protective aluminum case with boron steel reinforcement and liquid cooling. The battery pack comes standard with a heat pump system, which helps Polestar 3 use ambient heat for temperature regulation and battery preprocessing. Polestar 3 is also equipped with a two-way charging and discharging function, which may enable mutual charging and external discharge between the car and the network in the future.
