New energy vehicles have become the sales king, how to deal with the market worth hundreds of billions of waste batteries?
------ITECH assists in the full cycle testing solution of power battery recycling
1. The electric vehicle industry is developing rapidly, and the number of retired power batteries is huge
The hottest industry this year is new energy vehicles. From January to September 2022, my country's production and sales of new energy vehicles were 4.717 million/4.567 million, up 120.0%/110.0% year-on-year. At the same time, my country exported 389,000 new energy vehicles in 2022, more than doubling year-on-year.
Since 2015, China's new energy vehicle production and sales have ranked first in the world for seven consecutive years. As the number of electric vehicles increases, the battery inventory has also increased. According to the 5-8 year service life of power batteries, the first wave of power battery retirement is about to enter its peak. A realistic challenge is facing the industry, that is, how to deal with retired power batteries?
According to the Gaogong Industry Research Institute (GGII) report, China's retired power batteries will accumulate to 137.4GWh in 2025. There are currently two paths for the recycling and utilization of retired power batteries: cascade utilization and recycling and extraction of raw materials, with an estimated output value of over 100 billion yuan. The former is to dismantle and reorganize retired power batteries and apply them to energy storage and other fields that do not require high battery energy density; the latter is to extract expensive metal materials such as cobalt, nickel, and lithium from scrapped batteries. The 2021 Government Work Report also emphasized the need to "accelerate the construction of a power battery recycling and utilization system," and the development of the power battery recycling industry is about to accelerate.
2. ITECH’s full cycle solution for power battery recycling
After recycling, the waste power lithium batteries become recyclable batteries or extract valuable metal elements such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel from the batteries through physical and chemical recycling processes. ITECH's battery recycling test solution can help users solve the full cycle test of retired power batteries from the initial stage of reprocessing and screening to cascade utilization and finally recycling and disassembly.
First of all, the reprocessing process of retired power batteries mainly involves testing the battery pack capacity, internal resistance and other performance parameters, and then sorting the battery packs based on the test data.
The ITS5300 battery test system provides a variety of test steps and statistical analysis functions during the charge and discharge cycle test of power battery packs. Users can quickly master the editing and running of test programs without any language programming background. The statistical analysis function can help testers quickly screen data and complete battery performance parameter analysis.
Secondly, the cascade utilization is mainly aimed at batteries whose capacity is reduced to less than 80% and cannot be used in new energy vehicles, but the batteries themselves are not scrapped. Retired batteries can be recycled, screened, and reused in other fields. Typical applications include energy storage, such as wind and solar energy storage, peak shaving and valley filling, backup power supply, and household power regulation. Due to the large differences in the performance parameters of retired power battery cells, how to determine simple, appropriate, reliable, and universal sorting conditions is a technical problem that needs to be solved urgently.
The ITS5300 battery testing system can simultaneously monitor the voltage and temperature of each battery cell in the module while testing the module performance, providing a variety of test steps, curve drawing and data statistics functions, and providing a complete solution for subsequent cascade utilization.
Finally , recycling and disassembly are mainly for batteries that cannot enter cascade utilization or batteries that have completed cascade utilization. They need to enter the recycling and disassembly and resource optimization process. In this process, in order to recycle as many components in the battery as possible and use them as raw materials for new batteries, the battery will be fully discharged before disassembling . The main purpose of this is to avoid the risk of dangerous voltage or fire.
The IT8000 series regenerative DC electronic load is a compact high-power energy regenerative DC electronic load that can simulate various load characteristics and feed electrical energy back to the grid, which not only saves electricity and heat dissipation costs for users, but also meets the requirements of energy conservation and environmental protection. It adopts a modular high-power density design and can provide up to 18kW of power absorption in a 3U volume. Through master-slave parallel connection and active current sharing, the power can be expanded to 1.152MW, which is particularly suitable for testing fields such as power batteries and energy storage systems.
