According to foreign media reports, Microchip Technology Inc. (Microchip Technology) announced the expansion of its microprocessor system-on-module (SOM) product portfolio, including the SAM9X60D1G-SOM ARM926EJ-S™ embedded MPU running up to 600 MHz. The SAM9X60D1G-SOM software can provide bare metal or RTOS support through MPLAB® Harmony3 or a complete Linux® mainline distribution.

The SOM uses the SAM9X60D1G system-in-package (SiP), a small 28 mm × 28 mm hand-solderable module that contains the MPU and DDR, as well as power, clock and memory in a single package. The SAM9X60D1G-SOM is Microchip's first SOM equipped with 4 Gb SLC NAND flash memory, which can maximize the storage of data in application devices, while the on-board DDR reduces the supply risk associated with memory chips and reduces costs. The small SAM9X60D1G-SOM also includes a MCP16501 power management IC (PMIC) that simplifies power design work to a single 5V voltage rail to support low-power systems.
