As the first controller in ST's new STi2Fuse family to integrate I2-t protection, the VNF1048F is compatible with 12V, 24V, and 48V automotive power subsystems (boardnets). The controller is highly flexible and well suited for the latest automotive area electronic/electrical (E/E) architectures, improving efficiency and reliability while supporting other features such as electrification of smart driving.
The feature-rich and adaptable VNF1048F also features a serial peripheral interface (SPI) for the host microcontroller to configure and monitor system protection and diagnostic features, including undervoltage and overtemperature protection, thermal protection of the external high-side MOSFET, desaturation shutdown, and I2-t fuse settings. In addition, the controller has built-in high-precision digital current sensing and an integrated analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for monitoring the temperature sensing thermistor voltage, output voltage, and MOSFET drain-source voltage.
ST's I2-t fuse is an important feature of the STi2Fuse product family, providing fast, resettable and reliable overcurrent protection. Silicon fuses also help simplify vehicle wiring harnesses and reduce weight by eliminating user-accessible fuse boxes and related wiring and installation, thereby improving vehicle performance, such as extending driving range and reducing CO2 emissions.
