When it comes to "intelligent connected cars"
The first thing that comes to your mind
Is it a driverless vehicle?
Self-driving cars and regular cars
What's the difference?
What is it like to drive a car without a driver?
Let’s take a look together
From July 9 to 10, the 2nd China (Shenyang) Intelligent Connected Vehicle International Conference, co-sponsored by Shenyang Municipal People's Government and China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., was held in Shenyang. With the theme of "Introducing New Intelligence, Gathering Wisdom, Win-win and Sharing", this conference included four major sections including "Competition, Conference, Exhibition, Experience" including the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Application Competition, Intelligent Connected Vehicle Industry Development Summit Forum, Intelligent Technology Exhibition, Intelligent Demonstration Experience Activities, and project roadshows.
L4 autonomous vehicle
Debut in Shenyang
From the outside, the main difference between the L4-level driverless vehicle Apollo Robotaxi and ordinary cars is that there is an extra "small hat" on the roof. This "small hat" is surrounded by multiple cameras, radars, positioning devices and other components, with a detection radius of more than 200 meters. It is used to receive information from the roadside intelligent perception system in real time, distinguish vehicles, obstacles, pedestrians, etc. on the road, and even in special weather, it can help the vehicle understand the surrounding situation in time.
Open the car door, you will find smart display screens on the center console and on the back of the driver and co-driver's headrests. Although it is said to be "unmanned", there is a safety officer sitting in the driver's seat, who will only drive manually under special circumstances.
During driving, the center console display screen will clearly display the road conditions, intersections, surrounding vehicles, pedestrians, etc. Passengers can learn real-time information such as speed and remaining mileage through the screen. The vehicle performs smoothly in routine operations such as acceleration, deceleration, lane change, turning, and avoiding pedestrians. In case of emergencies, it can quickly identify and complete autonomous avoidance in time. The overall experience is no different from manual driving.
How was the test ride experience?
One word: stable!
Citizens felt that the vehicle drove smoothly throughout the journey, with a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. The safety officer in the main driving seat did not make any driving actions. On the way, whether it was avoiding vehicles or dealing with emergencies, the vehicle was able to make judgments and slow down in time. In addition to displaying pedestrians and cars on the road, the smart display can also display road conditions in some traditional blind spots.
Apollo Robotaxi has been put into operation in more than 30 cities across the country. Two unmanned vehicles were deployed in Shenyang this time, and more than 20 kilometers of roads were recorded in high definition around the Automobile City Management Committee area in Dadong District, and 5 kilometers of them were selected for test rides. During the conference, citizens can sign up online to participate in the unmanned driving experience activities and experience autonomous driving technology and products up close.
This conference innovatively adopted
"4+N" model
"4" mainly includes the four major sections of "competition, conference, exhibition and experience", including the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Competition, the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Industry Development Summit Forum, the Intelligent Technology Exhibition, and the Intelligent Demonstration Experience Activities
"N" refers to the project roadshow, the closing ceremony of the conference, and concurrent events organized by relevant organizations, partners, etc. The conference as a whole includes 1 plenary session, 3 special forums, 3 smart technology theme exhibition areas, 3 smart demonstration experience theme exhibition areas, 4 international events for smart connected vehicles, 2 authoritative consensus releases, strategic cooperation signings, Shenyang Night Awards Ceremony and other activities.
It is worth mentioning that the exhibition area of the Smart Technology Exhibition of this conference has been expanded to 3,000 square meters. The exhibition area has set up a series of activities such as smart driving test rides and test driving experiences, and science and technology product safety popularization, which fully covers the fields of smart transportation and AI interaction, attracting many exhibitors to participate. The technology exhibition has three static theme exhibition areas of smart manufacturing, smart applications, and scientific research and innovation, and one dynamic experience area. Automobile manufacturers and technology companies have brought their own "black technology" products.
In the Huawei exhibition area, the world's first car that supports advanced intelligent driving on urban roads made its debut in Northeast China. The vehicle is equipped with Huawei's AI high-voltage flash charging electric platform, and it only takes 15 minutes to charge the battery from 30% to 80%.
The robots in China Mobile's exhibition area integrate GPS, laser and other navigation technologies to achieve automatic navigation within the park, automatic path planning, obstacle recognition and avoidance technology, and complete autonomous navigation and automatic inspection tasks.
The Neolithic unmanned vehicle in the Baidu exhibition area is equipped with an L4 autonomous driving system, an Internet of Vehicles AI platform, an automotive-grade chassis, a battery replacement system, and a modular smart cabin, enabling the vehicle to maintain autonomous driving without the need for a safety officer to follow.
This test ride experience is so cool!
