“Jidu doesn’t make cars, it makes car robots”!
Finally, Jidu's first car robot concept car ROBO-01 will be launched globally at 19:00 on the evening of June 8 on Baidu Metaverse "Xirang APP", and the First Electric Network video account will also be live broadcast at the same time. The launch conference will present the product highlights of the car robot, including its appearance, user experience, and industry-leading AI technology.
Jidu officials said that the mass-produced car is not ROBO-01, but it is 90% similar. The first car robot will be available for pre-order in the second half of this year, and the mass-produced car will be delivered to the market in 2023, and will have high-level autonomous driving capabilities "out of the box".
Domestic smart electric vehicles competition is fierce, and technological innovation will win more opportunities for car companies. Huawei has entered the automotive industry and has launched a variety of smart car solutions such as Hongmeng smart cockpit and Huawei HI. What choices and surprises will Jidu, an automotive robot startup founded by Baidu and strategically invested by Geely, bring us?
What is Jidu’s level of intelligence?
Jidu Auto Robot is based on the three major product concepts of “free movement, natural communication, and self-growth”.
"Free movement", the car robot has L4 level intelligent driving capabilities. It is supported by Jidu intelligent driving system, which is provided with hardware and computing power by Baidu intelligent driving computing platform and NVIDIA DRIVE Orin, and the software and algorithms are jointly developed by Jidu and Baidu;
"Natural communication": accurate recognition of human-vehicle interaction and speech semantics, allowing the car and the human to communicate naturally; it will become the first mass-produced model in China to adopt the 4th generation Snapdragon automotive digital cockpit platform - 8295;
"Self-growth": Based on artificial intelligence (AI, big data driven), automotive robots can self-learn and iterate, constantly learn user usage and interaction habits, and continuously optimize various experiences of intelligent driving and smart cockpits.
For these three product concepts, especially the first two, we can see that Jidu has selected Qualcomm 8295 and NVIDIA Orin chips as computing chips for the smart cabin and smart driving, respectively, which are the strongest solutions in the industry. At present, Jidu Auto Robot, the first domestic car robot equipped with Qualcomm SA8295P, the most powerful smart cabin chip, has released the first software version of its smart cabin operating system, including some functions developed based on SOA, and the smart cabin software and hardware have been successfully adjusted.
In addition to smart cabins and smart driving, Jidu has reached strategic cooperation with many companies including Continental AG and ZF Friedrichshafen AG of Germany. The strong combination ensures Jidu's product strength.
Why is Jidu’s R&D speed so fast?
Six months after Jidu was founded, on September 24, 2021, Jidu pioneered the SIMUCar (Software Integration Mule Car) software integration simulation prototype car, starting the in-depth development of intelligent driving and smart cockpits.
Jidu SIMUCar can simultaneously and synchronously develop the brain (smart cabin, smart driving), nervous system (electronics and electrical), and torso (whole vehicle, chassis, and appearance design) of the automotive robot. It also adopts a dual-line parallel R&D method and a fully decoupled R&D process, which has efficiently promoted the R&D progress of Jidu's automotive robots and greatly reduced the product R&D cost and cycle.
"Standing on the shoulders of giants", Jidu has the support of Baidu and Geely.
• Jidu directly inherited the advantages of Baidu Apollo's leading intelligent driving technology and Robotaxi's huge data accumulation. Baidu Apollo's intelligent driving technology has always been in the first echelon in the world. It has accumulated more than 21 million kilometers of safety test mileage and is increasing rapidly, laying a foundation for Jidu's advanced intelligent driving capabilities. Based on this, Jidu's first car robot can achieve L4 autonomous driving function when it leaves the factory, rather than upgrading its intelligent driving capabilities through OTA later.
• Based on Geely SEA Haohan platform, Jidu can quickly complete the chassis adjustment for L4 intelligent driving, without the need for additional MuleCar verification, and can quickly enter the SIMUCar development stage. Based on the JET architecture, jointly define and develop a more open SOA software architecture.
What does a car robot look like?
Jidu released some detailed pictures of its appearance. The doors adopt frameless doors and gull-wing door design. Dual laser radars are installed on the headlights and front hood.
The rear of the car uses a through-type taillight, the car logo seems to be able to glow, and the tail wing has a special shape, which increases the sporty feel of the entire car.
Inside the cockpit, the uniquely shaped steering wheel is rectangular in shape, with the Jidu logo in the center and touch screens on both sides. The ultra-wide screen is extremely shocking, and it is equipped with sci-fi seats.
Currently, Jidu has started mass production mold casting work.
At Jidu's first brand launch event ROBODAY at 19:00 tomorrow night, you will see the long-awaited first car robot of Jidu. Jidu will be the first car company to launch a new car in the Metaverse, which sounds very cool.
Li Yanhong recently said that Jidu Auto's target market is family cars, and the product price is around 200,000 yuan. If it is indeed 200,000 yuan, then this product will become a hit among hits!
