ID.4 Challenge: The world record-breaking car is now on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles
The successful SUV is a highlight of the "Driving Tomorrow" exhibition series
Espelkamp, Los Angeles (USA). February 15, 2022 - In 2021, professional long-distance driver Rainer Zietlow drove a Volkswagen ID.4 and covered around 57,000 kilometers in less than 100 days, proving to the world the absolute reliability of electric vehicles. With the strong support of HARTING, his electric car journey across the United States set a world record and thus went down in history. The car he drove will be part of the "Driving Tomorrow" exhibition series at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles and will remain on display until the end of the year.
“I’m very proud that our successful EV challenge has now culminated at America’s most traditional automotive museum. Despite the challenging conditions, we were able to demonstrate that America’s electric vehicles and charging infrastructure can meet the challenges of long-distance travel.”
Marco Grinblats, CEO of HARTING's automotive business subsidiary, said: "As a Tier 1 charging cable supplier to Volkswagen and an OEM of in-vehicle charging cables, we are pleased to set a shining stage for the ID.4 vehicle. It is important that people are increasingly aware of the reliability of electric vehicles. This is the only way we can work together in the long term and work together to reduce CO2 emissions and combat climate change."
Back in November 2019, the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles already hosted the multimedia exhibition "Towards Tomorrow". The exhibition presented some of the current projects in the automotive industry regarding the design of future transport. Current concept cars developed by outstanding global car manufacturers were presented. Between the different exhibition halls, the focus was on the newly developed Volkswagen Modular Electric Drive.
In the last exhibition hall, under the theme of "Building an Electric Future", the ID.4 all-electric car driven by world record driver Rainer Zietlow on his trip across the United States last year attracted the most attention.
The Volkswagen ID.4 that Rainer Zietlow drove to complete his electric car journey is currently on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
