OMNIVISION, in conjunction with Xilinx MPSoC and Motovision IP, demonstrated a field proof-of-concept using the next-generation OX08B40 CMOS image sensor, achieving increased range and wider field of view in an 8MP high-resolution system.

The platform now enables Motovis’ forward-view camera system to take advantage of OmniVision’s higher-resolution 8MP OX08B40 image sensor, which features a 1/2.5-inch optical format, 2.1 µm PureCel Plus-S pixel technology, 140dB high dynamic range (HDR) and LED flicker mitigation (LFM), and ASIL-C and cybersecurity features – ideal for next-generation automotive applications.

Launched in December 2019, the OX08B40 is based on OMNIVISION’s next-generation PureCel Plus-S stacked die technology, which enables high performance in the smallest possible die size. The sensor leverages this proprietary pixel technology to improve image quality by reducing or eliminating fixed pattern noise, and offers high dynamic range, 140dB HDR and LFM, making it part of the best solution for next-generation automotive applications.

“The OX08B40 8MP image sensor delivers higher image quality with up to 4K2K resolution, which greatly enhances safety in the automotive environment, including lane recognition, vehicle and pedestrian detection, sign recognition and blind spot detection,” said Andy Hanvey, Automotive Marketing Director at OmniVision. “We are proud to collaborate with Xilinx and Motovis to help enable this next generation of forward-looking automotive technology.”

"Working closely with OMNIVISION and Motovis, our Xilinx UltraScale+ MPSoC is ideal for advanced forward-looking camera applications because it combines a feature-rich 64-bit quad-core and dual-core ARM Cortex processing system with Xilinx programmable logic in a single device," said Willard Tu, senior director of the Automotive Division at Xilinx. "Motovis's ability to adapt its front camera platform to take advantage of the higher resolution speed of the OX08B40 demonstrates the extraordinary flexibility of our Xilinx MPSoC solution."

Xilinx Automotive's Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC has been established in multiple ADAS applications and is an adaptable platform that provides the performance and safety features needed to meet the most demanding front camera requirements. The MPSoC family meets AEC-Q100 test specifications and has full ISO26262 ASIL-C level certification.

The Motovis forward camera perception IP is highly optimized for Xilinx MPSoC devices, creating a dedicated hardware-accelerated processing pipeline to manage video streams as well as AI-based perception algorithms. The Motovis IP is portable across multiple Xilinx device families, including the Zynq 7000 and Zynq Ultrascale+ MPSoCs, providing customers with a highly scalable and affordable solution covering a wide range of ADAS features and functions based on specific customer needs.
