According to foreign media reports, Israeli battery technology startup Addionics announced that it has used a chemistry-agnostic approach to redesign the battery architecture, which can improve the performance of solid-state, lithium-ion and silicon batteries, double the battery capacity, and cut the charging time in half, extending the battery life by 150%.

Previously, the company announced a partnership with multinational materials company Saint-Gobain to jointly develop next-generation solid-state lithium-ion batteries. The collaboration aims to significantly improve electric vehicle battery performance, such as longer driving range, fast charging, enhanced safety and lower production costs.

By simplifying the production process of Saint-Gobain's innovative solid-state battery component technology and eliminating intermediate processes, batteries become safer to use and reduce manufacturing costs. Saint-Gobain electrolytes have demonstrated lithium-ion conductivity comparable to the latest solid-state electrolytes, with other potential performance, manufacturing and economic benefits.

Addionics' smart 3D electrode technology enhances current collection across the entire volume of thick battery electrodes and improves material utilization, thereby increasing battery energy density and cycle life, which has been demonstrated in traditional battery platforms. In addition, Addionics' technology also helps solve the interfacial resistance problem commonly found in solid-state batteries.

“We believe our unique solid-state electrolyte technology will provide the next generation of batteries with improved safety and performance, with the potential for low-cost manufacturing,” said Dr. Mark Hampden-Smith, Vice President of Business and Technology Strategy at Saint-Gobain Ceramics in France.

Dr. Moshiel Biton, CEO of Addionics, said: “Our battery technology enables applications such as electric vehicles to perform better. It also offers cost savings, high performance and lower emissions. This technology starts with automotive applications but goes far beyond that to support a better environment and a more sustainable future.”
