According to foreign media reports, Ernie Brookins, an inventor in West Fargo, USA, announced that his clutch and transmission may obtain a "perpetual motion machine" patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office. The hydraulic hybrid system can power a car for 50,000 miles without fossil fuels.

The system generates more power than it absorbs, according to Brookins, “so my truck doesn’t need an engine. It’s completely self-sufficient.” The 1980 Chevrolet used during the test, “just charge it once, and as long as it doesn’t drain, you can drive it 50,000 miles.”

The patent-pending application is titled "All Hydraulic Automotive Self-Contained Drive System for Producing More Power Than is Taken in Using Two On-Board Power Systems and No Internal Combustion Engine."

Brookins said that the "accumulator" will replace the internal combustion engine to capture energy that would otherwise be wasted. "Every time you turn off the throttle to slow down, you waste a lot of energy. Instead of wasting it, I capture it." He disconnected the internal combustion engine and did not use the gasoline drive system. "Although the test pickup trucks are not yet fully hydraulically driven, we have conducted a lot of tests. The engine has been connected to the on-board computing system and the power steering system, otherwise these vehicles will not be able to operate." He hopes to make the test pickup trucks fully hydraulically run as soon as possible by adding more components.

Brookins believes that its hydraulic system is a low-cost way to curb global warming. " Electric cars are great, but the problem is that we need to spend a lot of money to build charging stations." As opposed to electric cars, hydraulic systems will help reduce the demand for fossil fuels.

He also mentioned that while an electric car might take hours to fully charge, his system can get the energy it takes to charge an electric car for two hours in just six seconds.

Brookins said he is in talks with a business partner in California to apply the hydraulic drive system first to commercial vehicles; and is working with International Trucks to apply the system to semi-trailers.

To secure private investment, the Brookins sold 160 potential shares at $2,500 per share and used them to fund the project.
