According to foreign media reports, on October 19th local time, researchers from Pohang University of Science and Technology and Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea announced that they have successfully developed a faster and longer-lasting electric vehicle battery charging technology that can charge electric vehicle batteries to 90% in less than 6 minutes.

Until now, the main method for speeding up the charge and discharge speed of secondary batteries or electric vehicle batteries has been to reduce the size of the electrode material. However, the disadvantage of this method is that it reduces the energy density of the battery.

Therefore, the research team proposed a new solution by creating an intermediate phase during the phase change of battery charging and discharging, making the charging and discharging speed faster without losing the battery's energy density and without reducing the size of the electrode particles.

When the battery is charging and discharging, the phase change material transitions to a new phase in response to the entry and exit of lithium, causing a phase change.

The secondary battery electrode developed by the research team can be fully charged to 90% in 6 minutes and can release 54% of the power in 18 seconds, providing better development prospects for secondary batteries with higher output capabilities.
