Specially designed to cure "accelerator mistaking brake"! Toyota develops new safety technology for local elderly drivers
Many people may think that Toyota is a conservative car company, because under normal circumstances, Toyota will not release some innovative technologies at will. Sometimes Toyota must go through repeated tests before releasing new products. But in fact, the real Toyota is not like this. In fact, it is not a conservative car company. It is very passionate and enthusiastic about technological innovation. It's just that Toyota is not so high-profile. For example, in the field of hybrid, Toyota is very low-key.
However, something unexpected happened recently. Toyota officially released a new research and technological achievement - the emergency safety system. In Toyota's plan, this new technology is expected to be applied to new cars in Japan in the second half of the year. What exactly is this so-called emergency safety system? You can take a look with the editor.
Toyota's new emergency safety system technology is mainly used in Japan, because Japan is currently aging very seriously. In Japan, seven out of 10 traffic accidents are caused by the old drivers' poor judgment.
According to relevant Japanese authorities, 15% of serious traffic accidents in Japan in 2019 were caused by drivers over the age of 75. A large part of the reason for this is that they mistake the accelerator for the brake, which causes very serious traffic accidents. Therefore, the new technology developed by Toyota this time is mainly to prevent older drivers from mistakenly stepping on the accelerator for the brake, thereby reducing such traffic accidents.
After reading this, many people may think that Toyota's new technology is just an advanced collision active braking system, but this is not the case. The active braking and collision warning that everyone knows are often based on the premise that there is an obstacle in front of the vehicle. Because the driver did not notice it in advance, the vehicle will automatically help the driver to brake actively.
However, this emergency safety system is very different from the active braking system. It will actively suppress abnormal vehicle acceleration when there are no obstacles, thereby improving vehicle driving safety. The difficulty of this technology lies in how to characterize abnormal acceleration, a misoperation behavior.
In addition, Toyota officials also said that this new emergency safety system is combined with the ICS sonar clearance detection system. After the two systems are combined, it can greatly reduce traffic accidents caused by improper throttle control. It is commendable that Toyota did not keep this new technology for itself, but took the initiative to share the logic of this system with other brands.
In fact, China's road environment actually needs such technology, because many drivers in the country often mistake the accelerator for the brake, especially many female drivers and novice drivers who are not familiar with cars. This probability is higher than that of the elderly. Therefore, the editor believes that after the release of this system, for China, it should be able to greatly reduce the probability of traffic accidents caused by mistaking the accelerator for the brake.
