On April 17, automotive parts technology company Faurecia announced during the Shanghai Auto Show that it will invest approximately 15 million euros annually in the research and development of fuel cell technology to promote the development of this technology in the automotive industry.

Over the past few years, Faurecia has joined forces with R&D and technology experts to develop high-performance solutions for two key components with the highest overall value of the fuel cell system: high-pressure hydrogen tanks in collaboration with Stelia Aerospace Composites, and fuel cell stacks in collaboration with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).

Recently, Faurecia and tire company Michelin Group signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a new joint venture to integrate all of Michelin's fuel cell-related businesses (including its subsidiary Symbio) and Faurecia's fuel cell business. Faurecia and Michelin are committed to working together to establish a world-leading hydrogen fuel system joint venture. Through the integration of existing partner resources and asset complementarity, the joint venture will be able to provide a range of hydrogen fuel cell systems for all use cases (light vehicles, multi-purpose vehicles, trucks, etc.) within a short period of time.

Faurecia has been committed to developing the latest technologies for powertrain electrification, green mobility and zero-emission mobility in passenger cars, commercial vehicles and high-horsepower engines for many years. Faurecia's overall goal is to reduce the cost of fuel cell stacks by half, making fuel cells a more attractive option for vehicle manufacturers.

Hydrogen is a key part of the future energy system. It can be produced in many ways, used to store renewable energy, and can achieve zero CO2 emission energy supply. Faurecia firmly believes that fuel cell technology will become increasingly important in hybrid systems in the next ten to fifteen years.
