Tesla Inc. has come up with a new idea to ease the anxiety of traveling with electric vehicles. When Tesla began rolling out its third-generation Supercharger last month, the automaker also introduced an in-vehicle technology called "on-the-go battery preheating ." When the driver gives the vehicle's navigation system a command to find a Supercharger, the system starts heating the battery, allowing it to reach the optimal charging temperature before charging.
Tesla says the feature can reduce car charging time by 25 percent.
Tesla said that its new V3 Supercharger has a new 1MW power cabinet that can support a peak charging power of up to 250kW. It will first be applicable to the Model 3, and in the coming months, the Model S and Model X will also be applicable. Tesla's move means that the car can add 75 miles of range in just 5 minutes.
Currently, this charger is the fastest in the industry and can charge four cars at the same time. According to Tesla, it only takes 15 minutes to fully charge a car.
The company said: "V3 chargers provide higher peak charging power, dedicated vehicle power distribution between different charging stations, and on-the-go battery preheating technology, allowing customers to fully charge their cars in half the time before, and Tesla can now serve twice as many customers per hour as before."
