Sharp announced a panel design technology that removes the "border" around the screen and allows for arbitrary design of the shape. This is achieved by introducing a gate driver into the pixel. Sharp exhibited a panel for car dashboards at the SID exhibition. In addition, during an interview with reporters, it demonstrated a unique design that made the author think for a moment that it was a "photo pasted on it."
The original panel placed the gate line drive circuit outside the pixel, which required a certain width of frame. However, this panel completely removed the frame on the gate line side by distributing the four transistors and one capacitor that make up the gate drive circuit within five pixels. The gate line drive circuit is powered along the signal line. This can remove the frame on the gate side and make the display shape not only the original square, but also any shape.
In addition, although the circular and heart-shaped displays developed previously have unique shapes at first glance, they all require a certain width of frame. This is because the gate line and signal line are generally straight lines, and the circuit that drives the gate line is also arranged outside the pixel.
