Mercedes-Benz began developing the car collision prevention system and the Mercedes-Benz proprietary enhanced distance control system 10 years ago. Currently, Mercedes-Benz has developed a safety system called Intelligent Drive, which combines safety and comfort. It will be installed on the next generation of Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Since the earliest days of the Mercedes-Benz brand, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, as its flagship model, has always been a symbol of the car, because the S-Class has always been pursuing technological breakthroughs. Ten years ago, the emergence of the PRE-SAFE® safety system ushered in a new era of safety technology, which can detect the risk of an accident in the car. This is also the first time that passive safety technology and active safety technology have worked together.
The next generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be equipped with the latest version of the "intelligent driving" system. The future intelligent assistance system will be able to analyze complex driving environments and potential collision risks through more sophisticated sensors.
A Mercedes staff member explained: "Figuratively speaking, Mercedes-Benz used to only have eyes in the front, but in the future it will be able to see everything that happens within a 360-degree range of the entire vehicle." The information collected by the sensors will be integrated through the network to enable them to work together.
The new system has made great improvements in both preventing accidents and mitigating the consequences of accidents. For example, the new BAS PLUS auxiliary system can effectively reduce the incidence of traffic accidents on roads with complex traffic conditions such as intersections. According to data from a German survey agency, this system can reduce traffic accidents by about 27% each year, which is equivalent to 20,000 accidents.
Here are the new features of the enhanced assistance system:
1. Steering Assist System: Enables the car to automatically maintain its driving course and automatically follow the vehicle ahead in slower traffic conditions.
2. The Enhanced Brake Assist system works together with the Intersection Traffic Assist system to detect vehicles and pedestrians at intersections and automatically brake when a dangerous situation is detected.
3. Early warning safety braking function: When the vehicle speed is around 50 km/h, it can automatically brake when pedestrians are detected.
4. Enhanced scanning function: prompts the PRE-SAFE® system to trigger the passenger protection device. At the same time, the car will automatically brake when rear-ended to prevent a secondary collision.
5. Seatbelt warning function: When PRE-SAFE® Impulse detects that a forward collision is unavoidable, the seatbelts will actively pre-tighten the front passengers' seatbelts, slowing their speed relative to the ground in advance to reduce injuries to the passengers when a collision occurs.
6. Active Lane Keeping Assist: This system is designed to help the driver maintain the original driving track when the lane dividing lines are not obvious. It keeps the vehicle on the original track by braking the wheels on one side. For example, if the vehicle deviates to the left, the right wheel will be braked, and the car will return to the original lane to the right.
7. Adaptive high beam assist: adjust the angle of the main light at any time to prevent dazzling lights to oncoming cars in front.
8. Night Vision Assist System: Detects pedestrians or animals in the dark area in front of the vehicle (where the headlights are not shining), and warns the driver with a sharp contrast image on the speedometer. The blind spot warning system can also detect the blind spot area in front of the vehicle at the same time.
