Honda is one of the most technical brands among Japanese brands. Honda's CMBS (Collision Mitigation Brake System) was first developed in 2003 and was initially equipped on the US version of the Accord. It was then equipped on some Acura models (including RL, MDX and ZDX). The main principle of this "collision mitigation brake system" developed by Honda itself is that when the millimeter-wave radar detects the vehicle in front and determines that there is a risk of rear-end collision, it will use an alarm to remind the driver, and gently brake when continuing to approach the vehicle in front to warn with physical sensation. When it is determined that a rear-end collision is difficult to avoid, CMBS will take strong braking measures, and together with the driver's own braking, it will reduce the speed of the rear-end collision, so as to effectively help the driver avoid and reduce damage in the event of a rear-end collision.
When the speed of the driver's vehicle exceeds 10 miles (15 kilometers), the CMBS system starts, and the sensor at the front of the vehicle detects the distance to the vehicle in front. When the system thinks that there is a possibility of rear-end collision, in addition to reminding the driver and braking, it will also automatically tighten the seat belt (E--Pretensioner system) to ensure the restraint of the front passengers. At the same time, when the vehicle automatically brakes, the brake lights will also light up to remind the vehicle behind to keep a safe distance. When the speed difference between the vehicle and the vehicle in front is less than 10 miles (15 kilometers), this system will not work.
Since the information is collected from the front sensor, the ice, snow and mud on the front probe must be cleaned in time and cannot be covered with other objects, otherwise the CMBS system will automatically shut down. In extreme situations such as abnormal congestion, off-road, and mountain roads, the CMBS system can also be manually shut down and displayed on the dashboard. At the same time, when active safety systems such as VSA are turned off, CMBS will also be in a closed state and displayed.
Honda launched the European version of the ninth-generation Civic at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. In addition to the sportier front face and hatchback design, it has been equipped with Honda's CMBS system, which can effectively improve the vehicle's driving safety.
