Tektronix provides oscilloscopes for many different applications and uses. To help customers choose the appropriate oscilloscope according to their needs, Antai Testing has listed the commonly used indicators for oscilloscope selection, hoping to help customers who are choosing Tektronix oscilloscopes.
1. Bandwidth
All oscilloscopes have a low-pass frequency response that rolls off at higher frequencies. The bandwidth of an oscilloscope is the frequency at which a sinusoidal input signal is attenuated to 70.7% of the signal's true amplitude, or the -3 dB point. Your oscilloscope must have enough bandwidth to capture all of the relevant frequency components of your signal. If you work with digital signals on a regular basis, bandwidth can be easily examined by comparing the rise time specifications of your signal to those of your oscilloscope. The rise time specification of the oscilloscope you use should be five times faster than the signal rise time to keep bit errors below 2%.
2. Sampling rate
The faster the oscilloscope samples, the higher the resolution, the better the waveform details displayed, and the less likely it is to lose critical information or events. Tektronix recommends 5x oversampling to ensure that signal details are captured and to avoid false signals.
Criteria: Sampling rate > 5 x (highest frequency component)
3. Record Length
Record length is the number of samples an oscilloscope can digitize and store in a single acquisition. Since an oscilloscope can only store a finite number of samples, the waveform duration, or length of "time" captured, is inversely proportional to the oscilloscope's sample rate. The longer the record length, the longer the time window that can be captured at high resolution.
Guideline: Capture time = (record length) / (sample rate)
4. Digital Channels and Spectrum Analyzer Input
Today's oscilloscopes offer more than just analog channels for debugging complex designs at the system level. If you need to analyze a parallel bus or multiple serial buses, the Tektronix MSO Series Mixed Signal Oscilloscopes offer 16 digital channels and up to 4 analog channels for analyzing multiple signals at once. If you are working with RF signals, the Tektronix MDO Series Mixed Domain Oscilloscopes offer a built-in spectrum analyzer for time-correlated analysis of analog, digital, and RF signals.
5. Features and analysis functions
Tektronix oscilloscopes offer a wide range of features and analysis capabilities. When choosing an oscilloscope, you should examine the triggering capabilities, waveform search tools, automatic measurement capabilities, and analysis packages available, such as serial bus analysis, jitter, and power analysis, to ensure that it meets your needs.
