The magnetic flap level gauge is an instrument specially developed for liquid level measurement based on the principles of magnetic pole coupling, Archimedes (law of buoyancy) and other principles, which is ingeniously combined with the characteristics of mechanical transmission. According to the different installation positions on the tank body, the magnetic flap level gauge can be mainly divided into two types: top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge and side-mounted magnetic flap level gauge. As shown in the figure below, type A is a top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge, and type B is a side-mounted magnetic flap level gauge. In order to enable instrument users to have a deeper understanding of how these two types of magnetic flap level gauges work, this article introduces the similarities and differences between the top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge and the side-mounted magnetic flap level gauge as follows.

1. Structural differences and similarities between side-mounted magnetic flap level gauge and top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge

  1. Similarities

In terms of structure, both the side-mounted magnetic flap level gauge and the top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge are composed of a display panel, a magnetic float, a buoy, and process connection components such as flanges.

  2. Differences

The magnetic float of the top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge is not inside the float ball, but works by connecting the lower float ball through a connecting rod.

2. Similarities and differences between the principles of side-mounted magnetic flap level gauge and top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge

  1. Similarities

Both the side-mounted magnetic flap level gauge and the top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge realize real-time measurement and display of liquid level based on the principle of communicating vessels and magnetic coupling. When used in conjunction with magnetic switches or remote transmitters, they can realize automatic control and remote operation of liquid level.

  2. Differences

The side-mounted magnetic flap level gauge has a cavity (called the main tube or float) that accommodates the float, which forms a communicating vessel with the container through a flange or other interface; in this way, the liquid level in its cavity is at the same height as the liquid level in the container, so the float in the cavity will rise and fall with the rise and fall of the liquid level in the container; since a magnet is installed at the junction of the float that sinks into the liquid and the float that floats out, when it and the float rise and fall with the liquid level, its magnetism is transmitted to the magnetic flap on the display panel through the outer shell, pushing the magnetic flap to flip 180°; since the magnetic flap consists of two sides, red and white, the color facing the outside of the display panel will change after flipping 180° (red below the liquid level and white above), and the junction of the two colors is the real-time height of the liquid level.

The top-mounted magnetic flap level gauge is divided into two parts, the upper part is on the top of the container, and the lower part is installed in the container, connected to the container flange by a flange. The float in the float of the liquid part is connected to the magnetic head in the upper float by a connecting rod. When the liquid changes, the float drives the magnetic steel to move up and down in the float, driving the red and white flaps of the display part to flip, and the junction of the red and white magnetic flaps is the liquid level height.
