How to tell the size of chip capacitors? Due to the size characteristics of chip capacitors, there is no clear way to identify them, even with the naked eye, they cannot be identified. The best method is to use a multimeter to measure. Let's take a look at the measurement method and reasons.
Multimeter measurement:
1. Connect the black test lead to COM, and the red test lead to the top right;
2. Set the gear to the gear corresponding to the capacitance to be measured;
3. Connect the multimeter probes to both ends to test;
Unrecognized reasons:
Many SMD capacitors cannot be marked with their capacity due to their limited size, so they are usually marked on the entire plate during SMD production. If it is a single SMD capacitor, its capacity should be measured with a capacitor tester. If it is the same factory logo, generally speaking, the capacity of darker colors is larger than that of lighter colors, brown-gray>light purple>gray-white. Of course, the best way is to blow it off with a hot air gun, wait for it to cool down, and then use the capacitance block of a digital meter or a capacitance meter to measure it.
It is said that this is because the production process of capacitors and resistors is different. Resistors can be printed before cutting (such full-page printing is definitely cheaper and easier to do). Capacitors are made of ceramic materials and must be sintered at high temperatures. The internal electrodes are silver-palladium. However, nickel is now used, and the cost of silver-palladium is too high. Since capacitors are cut first and then sintered at a high temperature of thousands of degrees, they must be electroplated on the electroplating line.
The specific capacity can only be known after the final test and sorting. The capacity cannot be determined after the test. Sometimes it is necessary to reverse burn (burn the end) and reverse plate, and then re-sort. Only then can the final capacity be determined. Therefore, there is no suitable printing time in the capacitor production process. Obviously, the designed capacity of the capacitor will not be very consistent with the final capacitance. A batch of capacitors can be sorted into many capacity segments in the end. The code is not printed because there are too many uncertain factors in the production process of the capacitor.
