A multimeter is also called a multi-function meter, a three-function meter, or a multiplexer. Multimeters are divided into pointer multimeters and digital multimeters. It is a multifunctional, multi-range measuring instrument. Generally, a multimeter can measure DC current, DC voltage, AC current, AC voltage, resistance, and audio level, etc. Some can also measure AC current, capacitance, inductance, and some parameters of semiconductors (such as β).

There will be certain errors when measuring with a multimeter. Some of these errors are the maximum absolute errors allowed by the accuracy level of the instrument itself. Some are human errors caused by improper adjustment or use. Correctly understanding the characteristics of the multimeter and the causes of measurement errors, and mastering the correct measurement techniques and methods, can reduce measurement errors.

Human reading errors are one of the reasons that affect measurement accuracy. It is inevitable, but it can be minimized. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the following points during use:

(1) Keep your eyes perpendicular to the pointer when reading;

(2) Place the multimeter horizontally and perform mechanical zeroing before measuring;
