Abstract: This paper introduces a 2D DCT FPGA design for JPEG medical image compression. The design makes full use of the flexibility of programmable logic devices and the hardware resources of the device itself, such as embedded multipliers. The 2D discrete cosine transform adopts the method of row-column decomposition and reduces the complexity of hardware implementation to a large extent through fast algorithms, improves the throughput of the module, and has the advantages of real-time and high precision.
