Compared with analog signals, digital signals are more resistant to noise. As long as the potential level is within a certain range, 0 and 1 can be correctly judged. However, as the circuit speed becomes faster and faster, signal quality is becoming increasingly difficult to ensure. As shown in Figure 2, overshoot and undershoot of the signal may cause damage to the target chip. Once the potential level falls into the gray area between 0 and 1, ringback and runt (see Figure 12) may cause misjudgment of 0 and 1. There are many reasons for these signal instabilities, which will be briefly described below.
