The CAT1163 provides a complete memory and power monitoring solution for microcontroller-based systems. They use low-power CMOS technology to integrate 16k serial EEPROM memory with hardware memory write protection, power monitoring circuits for brownout protection, and a watchdog timer on a single chip. The memory uses an I2C bus interface. When the system is terminated or \"hangs\" due to software or hardware interference, the 1.6-second watchdog circuit will reset the system and restore the system to normal. The CAT1163 watchdog monitors the WDI pin. The power monitoring and reset circuits protect the memory and system controller during system power-up/down to prevent brownout conditions. The CAT1163\'s five threshold voltages support 5V, 3.3V, and 3V systems. Once the power supply voltage is out of range, the reset signal is active, disabling the microcontroller, ASIC, or peripheral device from continuing to operate. The reset signal remains active for 200ms after the power supply voltage exceeds the reset threshold voltage. With high-level and low-level active reset signals, the CAT1163 can be easily connected to microcontrollers and other ICs. In addition, the reset pin can also be used as a debounce input for manual reset by hand.
