According to the characteristics of welding process, a real-time acquisition and processing system of welding temperature field image was established with industrial charge coupled device (ICD) sensor as the measuring element. Fuzzy inference control algorithm was adopted, and fuzzy control rules of the system were proposed on the basis of manual control strategy. With welding current as the control variable, a closed-loop control system of isothermal width of the back side temperature field of thin plate tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding was developed. By controlling the isothermal width close to the melting point temperature, the control of the back side weld width and penetration was finally achieved. A large number of welding process tests show that the system has good adaptability, high steady-state accuracy and dynamic response characteristics, and has strong anti-interference ability.
