The structures of FPGA, CPLD and other types of PLDs each have their own characteristics and advantages, but in general, they are composed of three parts: (1) a two-dimensional array of logic blocks, which constitutes the logical component core of the PLD device; (2) input/output blocks; (3) interconnect resources connecting logic blocks, which are composed of wire segments of various lengths, including some programmable connection switches, which are used to connect between logic blocks and between logic blocks and input/output blocks.
