ASTM G85-98 Salt Fog Test (Chinese) Designation: G 85 - 98 American Society for Testing and Materials 100 Barr Harbor Dr. West Conshohocken, PA 19428 Excerpted from ASTM Annual Standards, Copyright ASTM Standard Practice for Modified Salt Fog Test 1 This standard is issued with the fixed designation G85; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year of initial adoption or the year of the most recent change. The number in parentheses indicates the year of most recent approval. A superscript (ε) indicates an editorial change since the last approval. This standard has been approved by the U.S. Department of Defense. 1. Scope 1.1 This practice has been revised five times as required by the salt spray test engineering specification. The following is their development in chronological order. 1.1.1 Annex A1 Acetic Acid Continuous Salt Spray Test 1.1.2 Annex A2 Acidified Salt Spray Cycle Test 1.1.3 Annex A3 Seawater Acidified Cycle Test 1.1.4 Annex A4 Sulfur Dioxide Salt Spray Cycle Test 1.1.5 Annex A5 Electrolyte Dilution Drying/Spray Cycle Test 1.2 This standard does not prescribe the type of test modification, the duration of exposure of test specimens or a particular product to a salt spray environment, or the interpretation of the results of a particular test. 1.3 This standard does not purport to establish all safety characteristics of a product. If a product has safety characteristics, they should be analyzed in conjunction with its intended use. It is the responsibility of the person using this standard to consult and establish appropriate and safe operating procedures and to determine the appropriate adjustment limits of relevant parameters before use. 2. Referenced 2.1 ASTM Standard: B117 Practice for Salt Spray Tests Steel Plate Preparation 3 4 2 Environments The variations described here are useful. 4. Apparatus 4.1 Test Cabinet 4.1.1 The apparatus for the salt spray test includes a salt spray chamber, an acid solution storage tank, a suitable compressed gas supply system, one or more atomizing nozzles, a specimen placement device, a salt spray chamber heating device, and necessary control equipment. The size and specific construction of the test cabinet are diverse and can be determined by yourself, but the experimental conditions provided meet the requirements of this operating specification. The material of the test cabinet should not affect the corrosion of salt spray. Suitable test instruments should be able to meet the requirements of Appendix A1 of B117...
