This paper summarizes the theoretical knowledge involved in the optical software ASAP (Advanced System Analysis Program), including geometric optics, physical optics, mathematics, etc.; introduces a series of functions in ASAP, from the construction of geometric bodies, simulation of light sources, tracing of rays to the output of analysis results; gives the calculation methods of luminous flux, light intensity and illumination in lamp design; finally, using an example of LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting fixture simulation design, this paper illustrates the convenience and intuitiveness of using ASAP for lighting design, as well as the feasibility of this design idea.
