GSM History GSM History The GSM digital mobile communication system was designed by a standardization committee composed of major European telecommunications operators and manufacturers. It was developed on the basis of cellular systems. The concept and theory of cellular systems were proposed by Bell Laboratories and other units in the United States in the 1960s. However, its complex control system, especially the control of mobile stations, was not fully developed until the 1970s with the maturity of semiconductor technology. The development of large-scale integrated circuit devices and microprocessor technology and the widespread application of surface mount technology provide the technical foundation for the realization of cellular mobile communications. It was not until 1979 that the United States opened the first AMPS (Advanced Mobile Telephone Service) analog cellular system in Chicago, and Northern Europe also opened the NMT (Nordic Mobile Telephone) system in Sweden in September 1981, and then Europe successively opened TACS in the United Kingdom. system, Germany opened the C-450 system, etc. See Table 1-1.
