Online infrared diagnosis of lightning arresters in operation is an effective technical means for live diagnosis of power equipment. The heating characteristics of FS, FZ, FCZ, FCD type lightning arresters and metal oxide lightning arresters in normal and faulty states were analyzed. It is believed that lightning arrester failure is mainly caused by moisture, and the thermal image characteristics are mainly manifested as local temperature rise. Infrared temperature measurement and fault analysis of lightning arresters in operation were performed using an infrared thermal imager. The results show that the application of infrared diagnostic technology to detect lightning arrester faults has a high reliability.
