Complying with Military Vehicle Power Transients Military vehicle electrical systems often have to meet stringent transient requirements, typically the US MIL-STD-1275B and the UK DEF-STAN-61-5 (Chapter VI) 5th edition. Although those specified surges and spikes are beyond the tolerance of the Viagra Gen2 module, it is still possible to use a simple circuit to make a 24V input (18-36V input range) DC-DC converter module meet these 28V input vehicle voltage system application standards. Other electromagnetic compatibility requirements such as MIL-STD-461E and/or DEF-STAN59-41 also apply to military vehicle systems, but this is not the purpose of this article. To meet the additional conducted emission requirements, an input filter must be added before the transient protection circuit described in this article.
