Today, power consumption has become the single most important design constraint for integrated circuits, but power integrity rarely gets the attention it deserves despite the fact that it plays a pivotal role in determining power and energy consumption. Most people will have noticed that if we dim the lights in our entertainment room too much, the dramatic changes in brightness on the TV screen can hurt our eyesight. So the effectiveness of efforts to reduce lighting energy consumption is directly dependent on the \'light noise\' we encounter. For ICs, the principle is exactly the same, minimizing energy consumption by reducing the supply voltage is the most basic approach, which directly relies on power grid noise or power integrity. Power integrity is the next major challenge for SoCs and SiPs today, as power and energy continue to be the dominant design constraints.
